Chapter 9.
Nine Of Little Ennea-Monsters
Nine are the fledglings in the nest,
budding types of consciousness;
Ugly Ducklings skimming ponds,
on their way to becoming Swans.
Nine are the kinds of intelligences,
cutting corners, climbing fences,
racing Hares and slowpoke Turtles
clamoring over bumps and hurdles.
Nine are the types of problem child,
some too quiet, some too wild,
kinds of lessons they must learn,
paths of truth they must discern.
Three have Ego up their sleeves,
lengthening teacher’s list of peeves,
making the loudest kinds of noise:
Scape-goat girls, Black-sheep boys.
Three have Conscience under their hats,
following good little Copy-cats,
trying not to show their stripes:
Model children, Good-egg types.
Three have shells in which to hide,
standing alone on neither side,
quietly centered in the Id:
Wall-flower child, Latch-key kid.
Parents, do yourselves a favor,
understand your child’s behavior.
Once you learn the typical range,
strange behavior isn’t strange.
In the following verse and chapter,
male or female does not matter,
Nine are the girls and boys all mixed,
coming with problems to be fixed;
crowns of the furthest evolutions,
searching for the right solutions,
youngsters on the number line.
These, in a nutshell, are the nine.
Children Of Emotions:
Child Of Flattery, breast-beater,
Suzy Helpmeet, cheery leader,
light & fluffy, Miss coquette,
Little Goody Two-shoes, teacher’s pet.
Miss behavior model kid,
starved for attention in her Id,
staves off all perceived rejections
by increasing her affections.
Two is the child the Conscience reckoned,
trained to put her own needs second,
has Samaritan wings to spread;
wields a butter-up knife instead.
Too much Conscience cheats the self.
Put her in touch with the private self,
lest she end a slave to dictums,
rescuing undeserving victims.
Pollyanna could better please,
once she developed some boundaries.
She knows all the good commandments,
teach her personal independence.
Love Birds tell you little white lies,
snow ball more than double in size.
Charity works when Charity finds
respect for personal boundary lines.
Child Of Imaging, contest winner,
Gorgeous George, skin-deep skimmer,
in & happening, ideal par,
social climber, school yard star.
Miss America plays a part,
ideal ego, ideal heart.
All that’s missing from the deal
is a sense of being real.
Three is the child who trains herself
to put her feelings on the shelf,
while she races to compile
the prize that makes her feel worthwhile.
Nagging her while making it,
is the feeling she’s faking it.
Messy tangles can’t be sorted,
worthwhile feelings are aborted.
Passion made Pinnochio real,
Conscience gives the right to feel.
Id nor Ego won’t allow you;
teach this child that she has value.
Early Birds adjust their paces,
can’t enjoy without approval,
Dignity ends up “honest injun”,
giving others kind attention.
Child Of Melancholy, out of the fold,
Mary Contrary, breaking the mold,
deep and mysterious, making a scene,
starving artist, drama queen.
Little miss diff’rent wants to pout,
tries to sort her own way out,
stripped of good parental notions
in the rat maze of emotions.
Four is the gifted who compares,
feels left out and puts on airs,
ends up envying Little Jack Horner,
paints her feelings into a corner.
Only way to raise your self
is to praise and blame yourself. The Princess and the Pea?
Cinderella was blessed with less
when she learned she was not less.
Circumstances alter cases.
Let her have her private spaces.
To explore the labyrinth inside her,
give her a compass that will guide her.
all Dark Horses are imbued
with artistic attitude.
Honesty needs to set a pace,
everyone has a special case.
Children Of Intellect:
Child Of Timidity, Know-it-all-Ned,
walking think tank, talking head,
cold and sterile, hide-away bird,
class-room genius, playground nerd.
Mister egg-head’s treasure map
is hiding under his thinking cap;
lab-rats going round in cages,
book-worms pouring over pages.
Five is the child whose socks don’t match,
tends his thoughts like a garden patch.
Look inside his head, you’ll find
windmills churning in the mind.
Brains alone are over-rated,
don’t mean much till their translated
into tangible awards:
useful plowshares, tools and swords.
Little Tom Thumb turned out to thrive
learning to fuel the instinctive drive.
Don’t try to give these children hearts,
give them the guts to apply their smarts.
Lab rats know where north and south is,
he’ll put his money where his mouth is.
Knowledge shows the world where what is,
learning truth is where the gut is.
Child Of Anxiety, ghost fighter,
Doubting Thomas, nail biter,
wide-eyed & bushy-tailed, fleeing witch,
school yard ally, classroom snitch.
Mister enlister reaches for
team support, esprit de corps.
Without friends, this charming fellow
acts like his knees are made of jello.
Six is the child with nameless dread,
thinks up tigers under the bed,
dear-in-the-headlights, full of fright,
wants the light left on at night.
Herd-mentality, it appears,
somehow, rightly, comes with fears.
Night-lights, time, and your endurance
lead to faith and reassurance.
Note for The Boy who cried “The Wolf”,
ended up isolating himself,
Note when the The Boy cried “Wolf!” too much,
alienated and out of touch.
found his calling,
teach this child the sky’s not falling.
Paper tigers face their horrors,
nip them in the chest-of-drawers.
soothe his anxious inclination,
practice peaceful contemplation.
7.
Child Of Excitement, prodigal son,
jack-of-all-trades, master of one,
poised and ready, publicity hound,
practical joker, class-room clown.
ego always wants to bail,
grabs a tiger by the tail,
versatility is his forte,
grab the reins, he comes up short.
artful dodger
seven’s the child who fakes the dunce,
wants to do everything at once,
just one problem fit to mention,
cannot seem to pay attention.
rather than give the wittiest one
speeding tickets for his tongue,
feed his prodigal wit instead,
send him deeper into his head.
puss in boots straightened out his tokus
once his noggin learned to focus.
teach him to take a closer look,
get his nose into a book.
eager beavers end frustration
by developing concentration,
wit and wisdom both will flower
when they learn that silence is power.
Children Of Instinct:
8.
Child Of Arrogance, chest beater,
good-time charley, ring leader,
little corporal, wild and wooly,
bull-in-a-china-shop, back street bully.
lion king is on the outside,
bambi and thumper on the inside,
inner-children hate rejection,
strength and courage are protection.
eight is stuck at one location,
innate ego self-preservation.
needs to learn to use this function
with compassionate compunction.
give this child instinctive space,
combat strategy has it’s place.
you can never change his mind,
but can challenge him to be more kind.
david brought goliath down
with a single sling-shot round,
prove to him that love is tall,
and gently, patiently conquers all.
let the top dog rule the hood,
leadership is to the good,
courage shows how big it’s part is,
learning strength is where the heart is.
9.
Child Of Indifference, day-dream goner,
johnny-come-lately, playground loner,
under the radar, mellow and mild,
couch potato, invisible child.
mister indifferent won’t compete,
can’t seem to find his own two feet.
too serene for his own good.
acts like his soul is made of wood.
nine is the child that quietly proves
nothing happens till something moves.
get this kid to act his dreams out.
before his repressed ego screams out.
for this kid his weight to pull,
help his id stop gathering wool,
getting up off the couch behooves him,
don’t wait until the spirit moves him.
rip van winkle had to rise
and wipe the sand out of his eyes,
show this kid there’s nothing to it,
don’t think about it, just go do it.
moon calves need some stimulation,
lest they end up in stagnation,
patience learns to rise and shine,
and flee the coop they call cloud nine.
1.
Child Of Discipline, posture corrector,
suzy spotless, crime detector,
prim and proper, rule-book barker,
back-seat driver, nosy parker.
miss perfection over-reaches,
can’t live up to what she preaches,
after being educated,
upright ones are still frustrated.
hallway monitor
one is the child that humor fails.
tries to sleep on a bed of nails,
ends up secretely out of reach,
breaking rules she loves to preach.
misses out on all the fun
send this child on an urgent mission
to give her ego more permission,
give the conscience some enticement,
instead of rushing off to judgement.
snow white dreamed of liberation,
in suspended animation,
teach her tolerating more
is what her better judgment’s for.
cold fish have too many scruples,
cold turkey freezes pupils,
prudence shuns resentment’s poisons,
after it broadens it’s horizons.
